About NMEAThe Nebraska Music Education Association (NMEA) is a voluntary, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by an elected Board of Directors. Our membership represents all phases of music education in schools, colleges, universities, and teacher-education institutions. Currently, NMEA has approximately 1,200 members from across the state of Nebraska, and membership is open to all persons engaged in music teaching or other music educational work. MISSIONThe Nebraska Music Education Association is committed to building a robust statewide community of qualified music educators and allies by cultivating genuine relationships, advancing music education, and advocating for the profession. LEADERSHIP STRUCTURENMEA is led by a volunteer Board of Directors dedicated to supporting Nebraska’s students and music educators. The Board includes 14 voting members: 11 elected representatives and three presidential officers. Elections are held each fall. 2026 MEETING SCHEDULENMEA holds four Board of Directors meetings each year, all of which are open to members. The meetings are scheduled on Saturdays, with two held virtually and two held in person. Virtual attendance is available for any meeting upon request.
NMEA also holds an Annual Membership Meeting each fall on the first day of our Conference/In-Service Clinic. This year's membership meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 18. To become a member of NMEA, you must join NAfME and declare Nebraska as your state affiliate. By becoming a member of NMEA and NAfME, you benefit through professional development opportunities, access to top-rated music education publications, and exposure to cutting-edge concepts through electronic media. The result is the ability to offer quality educational opportunities to your students. NMEA/NAfME members have access to the NMEA publication, The Nebraska Music Educator, which is published three times each year. You will also receive NAfME journals, Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music. Membership entitles you to access the members-only section of the website, discounted registration at our annual Conference/In-Service Clinic and all other NMEA-sponsored workshops.
