Nebraska Summer Guitar Workshop

NMEA, in collaboration with Lincoln Public Schools and Nebraska Wesleyan University, presents the Nebraska Summer Guitar Workshop led by Christopher Perez. The workshop will take place July 11-15, 2022 on the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus.


The cost of registration for the Nebraska Summer Guitar Workshop is listed below. This workshop series is limited to 50 participants. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own guitars. However, guitars will be provided for participants that need them.

What will you learn at the Nebraska Summer Guitar Workshop:

  • Chord strumming w/ singing in various styles and keys
  • Beginning classical, finger-style, and pick-style right-hand techniques
  • Improvisation w/ movable pentatonic scales
  • Note reading in 1st and 5th positions
  • Basic theory & practical application of barre chords and power chords
  • Posture and hand positions
  • Classroom management
  • Curriculum, methods, and pacing
  • Beginning & Intermediate classical solo techniques
  • Basic guitar maintenance, repair, and tool needs


Christopher Perez is an active teacher, clinician, presenter, adjudicator, composer/arranger, and musician. A graduate of Western Illinois University, he is the Director of Guitar Studies at Freedom High School in Orlando, FL. Mr. Perez is a member of NAfME (National Association for Music Education), serving as the Guitar Council Chair and FMEA (Florida Music Education Association), serving on the FMEA Secondary General Music Committee. He was the OCPS (Orange County Public Schools, Florida) Guitar Chair (2009-2017) and an All-County Guitar Clinician for both OCPS and Polk County (FL).

Mr. Perez has presented sessions on guitar pedagogy at NAfME, FMEA, and OCPS Music Conferences. The FHS Guitar Program is a GFA (Guitar Foundation of America) Certified School and his Guitar Ensembles continually present and perform in concert on state, national and international stages including the FMEA All-State Music Conference, FMEA State Guitar Festival, the Stetson University Guitar Day Extravaganza, the Florida Guitar Festival at Florida State University, the Miami International GuitART Festival and Competition and the Long Island Guitar Festival in New York.
